Around The Web
The big news on the web today is that Amanda Congdon has apparently been fired from Rocketboom, although the the jury is really still out on that, with conflicting reports from both sides. I was a regular watcher of Rocketboom, but lately I've had a bit of information overload and podcasts and vlogs were the first things to hit the cutting room floor. I now only listen to a few. I'm not optimistic about Rocketboom's chances without Congdon, since she provided a lot of energy to the rather nerdly fare served up on Rocketboom (think Digg, the video version) and let's face it, she's attractive which is surely what must have drawn many viewers. I guess it will depend on who they get to replace her. Here's something cool. If you're a Firefox user (and my site stats suggest that a whopping 60% of you are) chances are you either use or have heard of FoxyTunes, which allows you to control your favorite media player from Firefox. Well, they have just released FoxyTunes 2.0 Preview, which adds a whole lot of cool new features. Now you can find lyrics, artist images, videos, artist websites, all while listening to music with FoxyTunes. It also comes with a desktop widget so you can use FoxyTunes without Firefox, a cool info box that displays album art and info for your currently playing track, it can even stream music from webpages to your media player. I've installed it and been playing with it all day. Though it's a preview release, and the standard warnings apply, I haven't run into any problems with it. The only thing I don't like about it is that it uses Ask as the search engine. But on the FoxyTunes blog, the developers have indicated that the ability to customize the search engine is coming.
